Chris Lazaroff off to Japan for

Gifts of Friendship Ceremony

Here's Chris closer to home, emceeing the Stars and Stripes first days ceremony in Grapevine, Texas,  February 27, 2015.  Sunday, April 5th, he flies out to enjoy the Gifts of Friendship first days ceremony in Japan.

When Chris returns I'll make plans providing him the opportunity to tell us about his adventure, traveling to Japan for a first days ceremony.  He told me he really doesn't know what to expect, being himself uncertain what a first days ceremony looks like in Japan.  Check back here in the next few weeks for an enjoyable and delightful

sit-down with Chris Lazaroff.

Here's a first-hand look at the four unique designs Chris will be utilizing for the first day ceremony.  There are two designs each for the 1912 Cherry Blossoms and the 1915 Dogwoods.  I'm very interested in seeing the Japanese cancels. I've no idea if they'll be large or small.  He spoke of the ceremony being held I believe at a high school. We'll see.

This blow-up from the lower left corner shows Chris's initials and then some wording he's written in...Japanese, mandarin? I'm not sure. We'll ask about this when he returns. Have a safe and successful trip Chris.

"Saw a Japan Post office today in Narita"

                                 -CHRIS LAZAROFF 9:00 AM, Tuesday

Sent from his Iphone, presently in Japan, Chris seems to have spotted his first post office.  Notice the JP Post logo. Does that stand for Japan Post?  Why is there an English translation on the sign?  Is it due to our military personel presence, or is it standard throughout the country?

"At an Owl cafe."

                 -CHRIS LAZAROFF 7:51 PM, THURSDAY

If you've collected Chris's envelope covers in the past, you won't be disappointed, as he reports to me from Japan he's prepared a few for the ceremony.  We'll see how he utilizes these when he returns.

"At an Owl cafe."

                 -CHRIS LAZAROFF 7:51 PM, THURSDAY

He's left us with no further description.  At first glance, I believed the owls to be stuffed, not really alive.  They're alive all right.  The cords coming off the owls are leases.  The owl on top of his head is pretty good sized.  Look at the claws on the one perched on his shoulder.   Did he then have lunch there?  After all, it is an owl cafe.

POSTED FRIDAY. APRIL 10. 2:00 PM

Chris checks in today giving us a glimpse of his day in Japan.  This must be following the first days ceremony, as he and others nearby are affixing the stamps to their envelopes.  He mentioned by text Japan's envelopes are slightly larger than our #6.  He'll have much to report on his return to the states.

POSTED FRIDAY. APRIL 10. 5:15 PM

I just spoke with Foster Miller, and I've learned while Chris is in Japan getting his covers cancelled at the ceremony, Foster today was at the National Postal Museum cancelling Chris' covers at the Gifts of Friendship first days ceremony here at home in the USA.    Chris, Foster told me to pass along to you that all went well, and your covers were cancelled as planned.

POSTED SATURDAY. APRIL 11. 1:30 PM

This is the post office where the covers were cancelled.  That's a nice post office.
