BACK FROM INDIA
A few days ago I arrived back from a missions trip to India. Over the years we've supported a school which serves as home to a few hundred children. These are children which mostly have been removed from the streets and other unsafe life situations. They rise early, 5:30 am for school, and after a long day of academics, then spend the daily required 4 hours of library study. They're food plan consist mainly of rice, and room with 32 other children. School is attended year round. We chose this time of the year which is India's winter, though temperatures average in the upper 80s to lower 90s. Summer is unbearable, with air conditioning non existent on campus. The India government is hostile to Christian work, and any mention of our endeavors at customs would've had us sent back on the plane and home instantly. India is a country of beautiful people, made up mostly of the Hindu faith, then Muslim, and maybe 4% Christian. I looked upon children who, like their peers and family, had worshiped and placed their hope cows, monkeys, and thousands of gods, and now have placed their faith in the one true God who loves them, and has provided relationship with Him through his son, Jesus Christ. A trip like this, being dropped in the middle of a culture and children who have literally nothing of value, yet smile beautifully at their second chance to have a good life, was certainly life-changing for me. I was told it would be, but I didn't believe it. It is true.
Today and this weekend I'll be painting Greetings From Washington and will post the first color study when complete. It's good to be back with you.
HAVE SOMETHING TO ADD?
WE'D ALL LIKE TO HEAR YOUR COMMENTS AND THOUGHTS.
Welcome back from India Kendal. That sounds like a trip that really change you.
Your right. Being surrounded by children who hold on to every word you speak to them, well, I just didn't expect it. I knew they'd be adorable. I didn't know they would adore me.
